Melbourne by night
Qantas Vacations and Qantas Airlines are offering what they’re calling a One Week Walkabout – a weeklong vacation package to a number of destinations on Australia’s east cost, starting at just $699 for 7 days and 6 nights. Airfare starts at $798 with direct flights from LAX and SFO. You can plan trips to Sydney, Melbourne, or Brisbane and their surrounding areas. Sydney means seeing the famous opera house, the gorgeous harbor, Bondi Beach, or maybe a trip to Hunter Valley wine country. In Melbourne, the most Victorian of Australia’s cities, you can see the dazzling scenery of the Great Ocean Round, make a trip to the Phillip Island Nature Park, or visit the spa in Daylesford. And Brisbane of course means access to the Great Barrier Reef, the Gold Coast, and some of Australia’s most stunning rainforests.
But! This offer is only good if you book by March 16, so think about making your travel plans soon. And for more on what to do in these amazing cities, check out Katherine Losse’s fun essay on living in Sydney, and Andrea Clarke’s great tips for a quick trip to Melbourne.

The Convention is being held in Melbourne at the new Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.  This venue boasts the World’s first 6 green star rated centre making it environmentally sound with state of the art technology.
With regular medal-winning appearances in the Economist’s Most Liveable Cities list (taking the top award three times since 2002), Melbourne has a right to be boastful. But despite its temperate climate, safe streets, cosmopolitan lifestyle and beautiful setting, locals remain low-key about their city.
They know that Melbourne is Australia’s undisputed event, sport, culture and food capital; a city with a European approach to style and a lifestyle that puts it in the fast lane.
Australia is famed for being free of social and political turmoil and filled with sun, surf and beaches, unique native flora and fauna, and warm, friendly people. And nowhere will you find these qualities more evident than in Melbourne. A modern, multicultural metropolis of four million people, it is a city that has made blending business with pleasure, a sophisticated art form and a way of life.
Melbourne truly understands how to conduct business on a global level; however it has also been aptly described as 'Australia's most stylish city after sunset'.
There are plenty of things to do in Melbourne. Easily navigated on foot, the city’s confidence and success are infectious; whether closing a deal or relaxing with colleagues and new friends, Melbourne is the perfect destination.

Oh, I just love this city so much!!!!! I bought my Crumpler bad, jattabra! And, and, and walked around the city for some time. The flight was okay, slept more than 14 hours yesterday, and just 1 today. Met Jess, gave her some hugs, went to the gym, didn't try the sauna and the jacuzzi YET! People are nice in Australia, sweet and kind.... the guy at the counter in Cole's (grocery store) asked my name, was weird, but nice, and wished me a good stay. The guy at the Crumpler shop was so much fun, so my muc my type!!!! Cute, tall, nice accent, lovely sense of humour. Anyway, life is great... I am only writing in short and not compound sentences.... Yikes!

Btw, no Internet at my place, it costs way too much, so please don't expect mails from me. And as in Europe it is now a little too early, no chats I guess. However I managed to talk to Hele and Gio in US and Canada, cool, it is early evening there.
